image8Nordkaukasus miljøvagt aktivist Yevgeny Vitishko (billedet, anden fra venstre) who was convicted in the so-called ‘damaged fence’ case [an inscription on the fence of Governor of the Krasnodar Territory Alexander Tkachyov] held a press conference in the regional office of the YABLOKO party in Krasnodar, Russia on 19 January 2014.

Vitishko spoke about the recent developments in his case and the decision of the court of December 20, 2013, which replaced his suspended sentence with three years’ imprisonment. At the time of the press conference there was no information on the date of examination of Vitishko’s complaint against this decision. Later there came information that the complaint would be considered on February 22, 2014. Since the case against Vitishko is political in nature, there is a hope that this decision will be changed only in connection with the international concern over the persecution of the Greens on the eve of the 2014 Winter Olympics.
